#BarefacedWednesdays - Adriana Lima

Happy Wednesday, Beauties! I'm feelin' the need to go makeup-free today -- just shades, and a fedora for me today.

Here, is the gorgeous Brazilian, Adriana Lima, without any makeup (right side). I never realized how amazing she looks without makeup because I, generally, only see her in Victoria's Secret catalogs and commercials. Don't her eyes look bigger and brighter even without her sultry bombshell look? I mean don't get me wrong, she looks beautiful on the left, but there is something refreshing seeing a supermodel in her natural skin.

Must Try: Palmetto Derma’s Intensive Hydration & Firming Serum

My dream-come-true medicine cabinet would be filled with bottles and bottles of serums that treated every single skin ailment, from dryness to dullness; from wrinkles to hyperpigmentation. I am on my way to building a sizeable collection, but I am far from my ideal serum collection.

My latest serum addition and obsession is Palmetto Derma’s Hydrating and Firming Serum. Palmetto Derma is an up-and-coming, cruelty-free, and certified-organic skincare line.  That’s not all -- all of Palmetto Derma’s products are paraben-free, sulfate-free, and alcohol-free, and so it really is a skincare line that can be used by any gender, and all skin types, including the most sensitive skin. (yay! ::happy dance::) Palmetto Derma also takes pride in being a brand that is more than skin deep. They donate 1% of all profits to Breast Cancer Awareness.

I connected with the owner and founder, and she was gracious enough to send me a full size bottle to try and review for you guys. The moisture-packed, glass bottle could not have arrived any day sooner…

Did it work? Did I like it?

For the past few weeks, Southern California, and particularly, Orange County, has been experiencing a heat wave, and our daily highs have reached the mid 90s. Dry, high heat wreaks havoc on my skin, leaving it tight, irritated, red and flakey.

BUT!! Since I started slathering on the Intensive Hydration Serum onto my face after I shower, my skin has not felt a hint of dryness. The Hydration Serum has been my go-to serum, and I’ve been reaching for it over many of my favorite serums and oils. In fact, since I have been using it my skin feels continually cool and smooth. It has not even caused one breakout or irritation, which I believe is attributive to the exclusion of alcohol and sulfate (both ingredients cause skin to be excessively stripped).

The Palmetto Derma serum also has a light, silky texture that glides onto and absorbs into your skin easily. I prefer gel-like serums as opposed to cream serums because gel serums seem to absorb quicker and better.

This serum is SUPER hydrating because of the hyaluronic acid. According to the Palmetto Derma website, “Hyaluronic acid is one of the most effective moisturizing agents, as it holds up to 1000 times it's weight in water.” No doubt, hyaluronic acid is a moisture surge, and one of my favorite ingredients (which I first discovered in Cerave’s PM Moisturizer). The serum has other great ingredients, too, like aloe, green tea, and jojoba oil (to name a few).

So, if this Summer heat is leaving your skin dry and dull, and if you’re looking to firm up and moisten your skin, Palmetto Derma is a great serum to use day and night. This is definitely a God-send for combination skin people like me!

#MasqueSundays: Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

A couple weeks ago, healthdesigns.com sent me a package with a bunch of awesome goodies, including, one of my all time favorites -- Queen Helene's Mint Julep Clay Masque.

I am no stranger to the Mint Julep mask. It's one of my favorite drugstore masks!  (Actually, the Mint Julep Masque was the inspiration behind Masque Sundays. It's been my go-to mask for years!)I love to use it straight out of the shower when my face has been cleansed, and my pores are open. When I'm done, my pores feel less clogged, and skin is cool, brightened and smooth!
The best part about the mask is that the 8oz. tube is less than $5!! The tube lasts me at least 10 treatments. It's available at many online retailers, including healthdesigns.comwhich has it for only $3.51! Get $5 off with my promocode  "mshealthyface" So, that means it's free, and you can get other goodies, too!!!!

TIP
Here's a great tip to make cleaning up after a snap! To make removal of the mask (and most masks) easier, use a large and thin piece of gauze to cover your entire face, and then apply the mask. When your done with the application, just lift off the gauze, and your clean up is all done!

#MasqueSundays: Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea Acai Goji BerryFacial Mask

Pangea Organics may have started off with a few homemade barsoaps, but they have expanded into a full skincare line that includes moisturizers, toners, eye cream, facial masks and more. Pangea’s products are crafted in small batches, using organic and fair trade ingredients (love that!).

Thanks to Betty, @bettylovesorganic, a Pangea Organics Beauty Ecologist, I was fortunate enough to be able to sample a few products from the Pangea Organics line, which will come in a full review in a week or so, but TODAY, I will be reviewing the award-winning “Japanese Matcha Tea Acai Goji Berry Facial Mask”.

What is this mask?

The Japanese Matcha Tea Acai Goji Berry Facial Mask, is a gluten-free and vegan treatment. The Matcha Tea, aka green tea, is chock full of antioxidants, which help to fight against free radicals, while brightening and evening your skin-tone. Actually, the mask includes three teas, which are all employed in both whole leaf and extract forms to ensure maximum potency for antioxidant, restorative and energizing effects.

Additionally, this mask also has Acai and Goji Berries. The Acai Berry is another antioxidant that has revitalizing, and skin protecting properties. The Goji Berry is also nutrient-rich antioxidant, and has anti-aging and skin rejuvenating benefits.

Moreover, the mask contains green and white clays that work together to restore, balance, cleanse and detoxify. The mask also contains four sea vegetables that re-mineralize, hydrate and oxygenate your skin. The jojoba and sunflower seed oils, as well as other essential oils, are found in the mask and further nourish and moisturize the skin.

Did I like the Mask?

I applied and wore the mask for about 15-20 minutes, and I absolutely loved it. If you have ever blended seaweed (I feed my 9 month old Korean seaweed soup), that is sort of what the mask looks like. It is a green and white clay mask, but it does not have that typical texture. Rather, it feels like you are applying a scrub as opposed to a mask.

What I liked most about the mask, and how it differs from most masks I have used, is that the mask contains small little sugarcane beads that exfoliate your dead skin and unclog pores!  The sugarcane also supports the skin's natural production of elastin and collagen. Thus, when you rinse off the mask, your skin feels baby soft!

matchamaskThe Matcha Tea mask is truly a staple to keep in your beauty arsenal, especially, before a big event when you need to prep your skin to allow for an even, smooth, and flawless make-up application.

Where can I get it?

The Japanese Matcha Tea Acai Goji Berry Facial Mask is $45 for 4 fl. oz. It is available on pangeaorganics.com. Or feel free to contact Betty, bettylovesorganic@gmail.com, and she may be able to send you a sample.

#MasqueSundays - Cel-Derma Ideal Radiance Hydrogel Mask

Two weeks ago, for #MasqueSundays, I treated myself to the Cel-Derma Ideal Radiance Hydrogel Mask,  aka the Hayumi Mask. Apparently, this is the #1 selling facemask in Korea. This mask promises to:
    celdermaidealradiancehydrogelmaskseasonv
  • Diminish wrinkles

  • Firms skin/lifting

  • Recovers skin barriers/pore care

  • Increase moisturization/nourishment

  • Whitening/Brightening

What’s it like?

This facemask is clear (as opposed to white), and comes in two pieces. The instructions ask you to apply the pack’s top section over the center of eyes, and the bottom section over the center of mouth.

When you first open the package and slide of the mask, you are immediately confronted with the slimy and gooey Hydrogel, which this facemask is so known for. The hydrogel is supposed to be temperature-activated and water-soluble. Basically, the heat from your skin allows the hydrogel to, essentially, melt into your skin, and all the beneficial ingredients, too. When you put the mask on, it feels like it is sucked to your face.

Did it work?

celdermajenI really enjoyed this mask. The clear material the mask is made out of is really cool and innovative. After the application, my face definitely felt cool, moist, and firm after the mask. My skin did look slighting brighter after, too. However, I didn’t see any diminishing of wrinkles, although, maybe with increased usage I would. Additionally, I liked how the Hydrogel helps the mask to stay in place, which was a nice change to the usual readjusting I have to do with some masks.

Would I recommend it?

I would recommend this mask to anyone interested in trying in trying a new type of facemask. I would rate this mask a 4/5 because it delivered all that it promised, except, diminished wrinkles.
