Hyaluronic Acid: Fountain of Youth?

Sometimes I stare at my 10 month old, and wish I could have his skin. My son's skin is just so soft and plump, and firm! I'm not greedy -- I do not ask that my entire body be as pillowy soft. No, I would just like my face be as firm, and smooth.

When babies are born, their bodies have naturally occuring high levels of hyaluronic acid, which keeps their delicate skin soft and smooth. Unfortunately, as we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin diminishes.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?According to WebMD.com, Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide that works by acting as a cushion and lubricant in the joints and other tissues.

While my son's baby-soft skin may not be exactly attainable, it is possible to help restore the skin’s natural hyaluronic acid levels, and give aged-skin a younger and firmer appearance.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers. One method is to use hyaluronic acid fillers. A trained dermatologist or plastic surgeon injects hyaluronic acid directly into wrinkled areas to generate cell growth, which produces more collagen. The collagen aids in elasticity, and the skins ability to retain moisture.

Hyaluronic Acid Topical Treatments. Hyaluronic acid may also be applied topically through serums, essences, ampoules, and moisturizers. Although you will not see as dramatic results when applied topically, hyaluronic acid still aids in skin elasticity and increases moisture levels. It can also reverse free radical damage.

The most wonderful thing about hyaluronic acid is that it is available to all skin types. Even oily and combo skin can benefit from hyaluronic acid.

Personally, I use many products in my daily skincare regimen that contains hyaluronic acid, including, Palmetto Derma's Intensive Hydration and Firming Serum that is the prize for my current giveaway!

Have you tried Hyaluronic Acid? What products do you use that contain hyaluronic acid? Has it helped you?

#BarefacedWednesdays: Dita Von Teese

Dita Von Teese is known for a very specific look:  impeccable matte skin, and flawless red lips. It's pretty rare to see her not done up and without red lips, except on occasion when you can catch her barefaced, as pictured on the left.

She's a siren done-up, but without make-up she's still adorable as ever, and her skin is super impressive! I just love her pin-up style! What do you think is better? Makeup-up or no makeup?

Ms. Healthyface x Palmetto Derma Giveaway #MissHLovesPalmettoD

Happy Sunday!

I am so excited to be having my first #giveaway! I was gushing to the founder of PalmettoDerma about the Intensive Hydration and Firming Serum, I reviewed recently, and how much I enjoy using it... I can't wait for the winner to try the serum out. I know he/she will love it just as much as me!

Here's how to win:
